Become a Concurrent Enrollment Instructor

Bring college-level opportunities directly to your students.

Qualified high school teachers can partner with 51ÁÔÆæ to teach college courses right in their high school classroom, giving students a head start on their future while expanding your own professional experience.

Who is eligible?

  • High school teachers with at least one year of teaching experience
  • Approval from your school administrator
  • A Master’s degree is required for Arts and Sciences courses
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses may not require a Master’s degree, depending on the subject area

Why teach concurrent enrollment?

Teaching concurrent enrollment allows you to:

  • Provide students with access to college-level opportunities close to home
  • Strengthen your own content expertise and professional growth
  • Connect with 51ÁÔÆæ faculty and stay aligned with college-level expectations and trends
  • Play a direct role in helping students build confidence and succeed in college coursework

What to expect

As a concurrent enrollment instructor, you’ll:

  • Teach 51ÁÔÆæ-approved curriculum aligned with college standards
  • Use the same resources and learning outcomes as 51ÁÔÆæ faculty
  • Participate in orientation and course-specific training
  • Be supported by 51ÁÔÆæ academic leadership and staff

Getting started

The process to become a concurrent enrollment instructor is straightforward:

  1. Your high school principal submits a request to 51ÁÔÆæ to offer a course and identifies a prospective instructor
  2. You’ll complete an 51ÁÔÆæ application and submit unofficial transcripts
  3. 51ÁÔÆæ academic leadership reviews your qualifications
  4. Once approved, you’ll submit official transcripts
  5. Attend orientation and training to prepare for your course

Additional details

  • Concurrent enrollment instruction is part of the teacher’s role within their local school district; 51ÁÔÆæ does not provide additional compensation
  • A minimum of five students is required to offer a course
  • All students must be registered for 51ÁÔÆæ credit
  • A background check is required prior to teaching
  • Teachers must hold a valid, active Iowa teaching license
